When I think about features that I want in a scope for my rifle, the first things that come to mind are good magnification, easy to zero, glass reticle, illuminated crosshair, and good eye relief. It’s been difficult for me to find all these in one scope that also fits in my price range.
Let’s face it, everyone can’t afford an Acog! When I was searching for a new scope, I happened to stumble across a company called, Barska.
Honestly, I had never heard of them before and I had no idea how high of quality their products were, but I decided to give them a chance and check them out.
Although Barska also provides binoculars, laser sights, and telescopes, their rifle scopes are their main specialty, which they offer many different varieties of, for a plethora of weapons.

Every scope, including this Swat-AR, are 100% fogproof and waterproof, making hunting in any condition a possibility. The Swat-AR has is CO-2 nitrogen purged and O-ring sealed which is what creates a completely waterproof scope!
After learning all this about Barska, I was confident in my decision to purchase their scope and highly anticipated its arrival. I was dying to hunt with my AR-15 again, since my only other scope had proved to be unreliable and cheap.
As much as I had doubted it in the beginning, I was able to find every feature that I wanted in one scope that easily fit in my price range, illumination and all!
When I got my Swat-AR, I opened it up, and to my surprise, it came with two batteries for the reticle; one for now and one for when that one dies. I hate having to replace batteries in anything so this one extra little thing just backed up my decision even more.
First things first, I took my AR-15 to the range so I could zero this baby in! As expected, the crosshair was way off, but that didn’t take long to change. After about 15 rounds from 50 yards, even with my shoddy shooting, that was fixed and the scope was all zeroed in.
Even after two weeks of using this scope on a regular basis, it stayed completely zeroed in and I didn’t have to do any adjusting at all.
Besides staying zeroed almost indefinitely, another nice feature on this scope is the external locking turrets which lock to securely inhibit movement of the scopes windage and elevation. Almost any scope I have used in the past was constantly needing adjusting so this is the first time I’ve ever experienced this luxury so that’s just one less thing I need to think about while shooting.
Being the type of person I am, I’m surprised I’ve ever even gotten close enough to a deer to shoot it; let’s just say I’m not a very quiet person. The zoom on this scope really helps solve this problem for me because the magnification is amazing!
I am able to do long distance shooting with no problem since the magnification has a range from a true 1x all the way to 4x magnification. Also, at the true 1x magnification, this scope is able to be used in combination with any rifles iron sites.
I can shoot from 100 yards away with ease so I don’t have to worry about being loud and scaring anything away. The eye relief on this scope is also very impressive, at a whopping 4.5 inches! I’ve used thousand dollar scopes that don’t even have that much eye relief. Thanks to this new scope, I will no longer be getting banged in the face with my guns due to large recoil!
Along with the great magnification, this scope features a glass-etched mil-dot reticle which illuminates in red and green, but you can also just use the traditional black crosshair. At this price, I did not expect to find any scope with a glass reticle; something like that is usually reserved for five hundred plus scopes.
Besides just being impressed with the reticle, I was also very happy to find it illuminated not only in green, but in red as well. This comes in handy when shooting in different environments and lighting conditions. No matter what the circumstances are, you will be able to see your target just fine, thanks to these illumination options.
Being the great company that Barska is, every item that they develop comes automatically with their limited lifetime warranty. Just because something is a reasonable price, doesn’t mean anything has to be sacrificed.
This lightweight, 16 oz structure of this Swat-AR is ideal for any shooter, all the way from a novice to a sharp shooter in the military! At only 10 inches long, it’s a nice addition to any rifle without looking bulky and unsightly. Barska does not sacrifice any functionality at the expense of the customer, creating only the highest quality of products.
This scope worked great on my AR-15 and I have not regretted my decision to buy this scope one time due to its consistent flawless performance.
Close to this is the Barska 3-9×42 IR Countour made by the same manufacturer. The SWAT IR is the more tactical of the two, with lower magnifications and a smaller objective. You’ll be saving the contour for the longer range shots.
